Paddle Out for World Mental Health Day

Paddle Out for World Mental Health Day

    WHY A PADDLE OUT?
    • The Paddle Out is a symbolic community event, uniting us to raise awareness for mental health, suicide prevention and ocean conservation.
    • World Mental Health Day was established by The World Health Organization (WHO) and falls annually. This community event is part of the global efforts of the International Surf Therapy Organization (ISTO), and there will be many paddlers taking part in sister events held worldwide from Australia to California!
    • Being in the ocean has proven therapeutic value, and surfing and other ocean based activities can increase emotion regulation, social connection, getting into flow state, being present, leaving everyday stress behind on the shore, and the natural release of dopamine, serotonin, and endorphins.
    • Being out in the ocean creates a sense of awe, where we experience the wonder of nature, putting aside day to day stress.
    HOW TO JOIN:
    • All attendees must sign up individually using the link here
    • Meet at Sunset Beach at 4.30PM on Sunday 9th October
    • We will get in the water at 5PM and gather paddle out to Burj Al Arab, where we’ll form a circle and take an epic group photo!
    • Bring your surf board, paddle board, kayak, or body board or even dragon boats!
    • If you need to hire a board, contact Surf House Dubai on 0505043020
    • Bring your bathing suits, towels and water (in environmentally friendly bottles) snacks and coffee are available for purchase at Surf House until 7PM
    DON’T FORGET!
Show your love for ocean conservation by making time for a beach clean up before or after we jump in the water.

RIP CURL SUNSET OPEN 2022 SURF COMPETITION

RIP CURL SUNSET OPEN 2022 SURF COMPETITION

The tradition of the Sunset Open began in 2010. A surfing event held once a year with 3 reasons in mind:

    1. To showcase local Emirati and expatriate surfing talent from the region.
    2. To bring together the world class ocean and beach communities in the UAE.
    3. To celebrate the sport of surfing (in multiple forms of wave riding) and bring more awareness to the beaches and ocean environment of the UAE.

It has always been held during the UAE’s most wave rich calendar months of February to March with a 5 week waiting period to give us the chance of picking the best weekend of swell in that time frame.  Falling in the back half of the winter seasons also allows surfers to have the first portion of winter to shake off summer cobwebs and refine their surfing.

The very first Sunset Open was unsurprisingly held on Dubai’s Sunset Beach. Half a dozen picnic gazebos, a dozen outdoor garden chairs and 20 community volunteers helped put on the events first iteration and instantly became a calendar highlight of the year. It is an event that embodies the spirit of the UAE’s surf culture. Fun waves, good vibes, a close community of familiar faces and a stoke for riding waves on par with the most revered surfing hubs around the globe.

The event has grown leaps and bounds in its national support, production and participation since 2010 (now 100+ competitors across all divisions), and we look forward to its inaugural hosting at the Umm Al Quwain Kite Beach Centre this year in 2022.

A bit of nostalgia below, showing the first ever permit to run the competition back in 2010.

    DETAILS

    Waiting Period: March 5 - April 3, 2022

    • Though in the past, we've done the contest at the surf spots in Dubai, we are now partnering with KBC to bring you a more organic and relaxed vibe with their venue ambience and of course tried and tested real quality waves.

    Salalah Coastal Expedition

    Salalah Coastal Expedition

Over a decade ago, No Boundaries Oman set up chartering a single centre console and small fishing lodge in a sleepy fishing village called Ash Shuwaymiah. 50km offshore lay the magical Hallaniyat Islands, already with an underground reputation for insanely huge Giant Trevally. From this loaction they immersed themselves in adventure and have pioneered many different parts of the fishery both on and offshore.

Spend a full week offshore exploring Southern Oman with No Boundaries aboard their custom built luxury Mothership 'Notus Temptress'. Guests will board in Salalah and head along the coast towards the Hallaniyat Islands, an archipelago of 5 Islands that is home to some incredible marine life and amazing backdrops. We may even score some waves pending swell reports closer to departure but either way guests can expect an adventure filled week Fishing, Stand Up Paddle boarding over amazing reefs, Free diving, Walking virgin beaches, Whale & Dolphin watching and more.
Each berth (room) sleeps 3 guests and all are en-suite. Our crew consists of Captain, first mate, chef, deck hands, certified guides and hosts. This is an all inclusive trip once you board in Salalah and includes 7 nights aboard Notus Temptress, 3 x 34ft centre consoles to explore on every day (6 full days), SUP use and all F&B.
Oman Air & Fly Dubai both offer direct flights or via Muscat or another option is the drive through the Al Ain border to Salalah. Its a long drive but pretty epic if you have never experienced it.
Dates are 24th February to March 3rd, 2022. Surf House Dubai as partners gives it's clients a 40% discount on the usual rate, payment can be made by clicking here.
